Total War: Warhammer III's Immortal Empires just got its biggest campaign yet, and the pitch is simple: everyone hated how Warhammer Fantasy ended, so now you get to change it.

The Lords of the End Times expansion drops players into the setting's apocalyptic final era, complete with endgame invasions for Archaon's Chaos horde, Nagash's Great Ritual, and the Skaven Vermintide. You can run all three at once if you want the full "everything is on fire" experience, and if you're playing as Archaon, you can even trigger the Chaos invasion yourself once you're strong enough.

Getting in no longer requires owning all three Total War: Warhammer games, or even the third one on its own. Buying any single character from the expansion, Boris, Thanquol, Nagash, or The Glottkin, unlocks the campaign for $9 (£7.49), though that entry point doesn't hand you every playable faction.

PC Gamer's Sean Martin, who has logged over 3,200 hours in the trilogy, points to playing as the Fay Enchantress and killing Nagash before he could sacrifice her, instead of letting the lore's grim original outcome play out, as proof the expansion's real hook is undoing decades of fan-hated plot beats rather than just replaying them.

Creative Assembly still has work ahead, campaign AI needs fixing and factions like Bretonnia are overdue for a rework, but for the herd who've wanted to personally curb-stomp Mannfred on repeat, nine bucks to rewrite Warhammer's saddest chapter sounds like a deal.
